Protecting Our County For Over Three Decades
After attending college in Sacramento, in 1990, Jeff began his career with the El Dorado County Sheriffs Office as a correctional officer working in our jail. Throughout his 31 year career Jeff has gained a thorough understanding of how all parts of our Sheriff’s Office work by mastering the many duties assigned him. During his career Jeff has served as a Correctional Officer, Patrol Deputy, School Resource Officer, Detective in Investigations, Court Services Supervisor, Patrol Sergeant, Special Enforcement Detail Unit Supervisor, and Narcotics Unit Supervisor. Some of Jeff’s other assignments have included: Jail Training Officer, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team member, Custody Emergency Response Team Leader, Sheriff’s Explorer Post Lead Advisor, STAR Academy Instructor, Off-Highway Vehicle Unit and Public Information Officer.
Jeff has honed his management skills by coordinating several important programs for our Sheriff’s Office including; Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, Search and Rescue, Citizen’s Academy, Neighborhood Watch, National Night Out and Coffee with A Cop program. Since earning his promotion to Lieutenant in 2017, Jeff has overseen our resident deputy program, Sheriff’s satellite stations (offices), SWAT team and crisis negotiations team, Explosive Ordinance Detail, Interdiction Unit, Peer Support, Gang Unit, K-9 Unit, along with serving as the community liaison to both the Serrano Community and Town Center, and the Redhawk Casino.
A high school and colligate baseball standout, Jeff spends much of his free time encouraging our El Dorado County Youth to pursue a wholesome path through sports. Jeff has coached baseball in several of our Little Leagues, Oak Ridge High School, Union Mine High School, Ponderosa High School and girls softball at Foothill Girls Softball League. Jeff has coached Pop Warner Football for the El Dorado Junior Cougars program and youth basketball for the Placerville Parks and Recreation. Jeff is currently volunteering his time mentoring a little brother through the El Dorado County Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
Jeff is an active member of the National Association of Tactical Officers, California Association of Tactical Officers, Nor Cal COPS, Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers of America, California Shrine, Drytown Masonic Lodge, and the Sacramento Men’s Senior Baseball League.
A strong supporter of wholesome outdoor and conservation activities, Jeff is a supporting member of the National Rifle Association, Gun Owners of California, California Rifle and Pistol Association, National Wild Turkey Federation, California Deer Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and Ducks Unlimited.
Meet The Leikaufs – Neighbors We Are Proud To Have
Jeff & Jenny Leikauf are celebrating their 27th year of marriage as they help prepare the youngest of their four children, Easton (13) in joining his siblings, Karsyn (18), Hunter, (23) and Corey (29), as good and supporting members of the community.
The Leikauf’s live in a modest home in the Cameron Park/Shingle Springs area and consider themselves blessed and fortunate to be able to enjoy and raise their family in our unique foothill lifestyle. County residents for over 22 years. While Jeff is serving as a Lieutenant for our Sheriff’s Office and volunteering for various community projects, Jenny herself enjoys volunteering for various community and Sheriff’s Office projects. The Leikauf’s attend Green Valley Community Church.
